Data Technology – Managing Earth from the sky

The UN General Assembly Resolution in 2015 officially recognized Earth Observation and Geolocation Technology to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs takes charge to introduce “Space4SDGs” to explore the possibilities in the application of space technology to support the 17 SDGs, for example:
o SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation – Space tech for water quality monitoring
o SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy – Space tech for power grid management
o SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities – Space tech for urban planning

China established the International Research Centre of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals in Beijing in September 2021 to support the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by making using of “Big Earth Data” through satellites and other data collecting sources
